Why set ourselves up for the blow!

Ok.. fair enough, many of us were children when we first got hooked. We grew up with.. and because of, The Dog! Our Friend, Buddy, Pal. Inevitably when we reach that point in time when we are seen to be all grown up,"Reared" The Dog dies...Megga Bummer to say the least. We move on and the family gets another dog. The cycle of adoration and loyalty starts again .
Then we forget the pain of that first loss. We get a dog , a cat ... a budgie?? We get hooked. Why? I think it is because they are so loyal to the true meaning of friendship and family. That is : Love me and I will love you. Don't and I will love you anyway. Look out for me and I will look out for you. But my role is unconditional. It does not matter what we do. These wonderful assets, that we acquire, by some miraculous default are set to be our major allies in this world. The hard part is. that unless it is an elephant, they are much shorter lived than we would really need them to be. That is why a lot of us are left with a big hole in our hearts when they die.

  1. Just watched Corrie.... Ya I am A Fan.... i did that twice. Held my precious friend as they took their last breath. It is part of loving a dog. It is what they expect of you. To be there for them. Each time I felt an explosion inside, as if something in me broke. After watching Chesney and Schmeichel, I just think it was the wrench of their departure from this life with us and the impact that had on me. Sam Aston played it well. As I write this I am surrounded by a Cat and another Springer. What special friends they are
